A second town by population of Bryansk Oblast', but as a "capital" of Starodúbshchyna, it's really different from Bryansk
-shchyna ("shch" is pronounced similar to "sh" in "sheep") is a common suffix for regions in North-Eastern Ukraine (Kharkiv, Chernihiv, etc.) and neighboring Russia (Bryansk, Kursk, etc.).
In its borders, Starodúbshchyna looks like a (Russian) protrusion into Belarus, with another protrusion on the south from Ukraine.
You notice, while strolling here, how different the architecture of Klintsy is from Bryánshchyna. It's much closer to the neighboring Belarusian Homyel, -- this city is closer to the subject than Bryansk, -- and in some way even Cherníhivshchyna and Súmshchyna, with their free "cossack" interpretations of styles, popular in Russian Empire.

It should be said, that for over 115 years, 1802-1918, Klintsy with the whole region of Starodúbshchyna were included into Chernihiv Governorate, although this area never had Ukrainians in any notable proportions.
This town was founded by starovery (Old Believers) in the beginning of XVIII century. The whole area became their shelter. Although now, compared to Novozýbkov, this town no longer has prominent enough temples (there is one in the center, and I believe that's all).
