Welcome to the southern tip of the center of Novosibirsk, which is the most pleasant quarter here

The Sverdlov square is, in my opinion, the most beautiful area of the city. The Red Avenue, main street of the city, starts around here. This region is concentrated with pre-revolution and interbellum architecture of Novosibirsk. The square itself is, quite possibly, the most beautiful in Novosibirsk, displacing even Lenin Square.

Unfortunately, I didn't stride around the whole area, as I needed to get to my hobby session, but eventually I'll make a sequel to this post.

The left side of the Red Avenue starts with Aleksandr Nevsky cathedral. It was built in neo-byzantine style in the end of XIX century.

In the soviet era the church was first transferred to "renovationists", but after they got repressed in 1937 this cathedral was getting transferred between various organizations. There were even plans to demolish it.

But in 1988-1989 Orthodox Church's ownership of the cathedral was restored.

It's the only building in Novosibirsk, which was officially acclaimed as a global-scale architectural masterpiece!
